The gasoline-powered 110 cc Briggs & Stratton OHV 4-stroke engine in the Briggs & Stratton P2200 PowerSmart can put out 120V. It has a running power of 1,700W and a maximum power of 2,200W. Also, since it can work in parallel (but does not come with a PowerSmart parallel kit), its power can be doubled by connecting it to a second unit that works with it. This inverter generator has a noise level of 59 dBA, which is less than a refrigerator. It starts up with a traditional pull-start mechanism. Because it can hold 1 gallon of fuel, the P2200 PowerSmart can run for up to 8 hours on a full tank (it uses about 0.13 GPH). The P2200 PowerSmart makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 3%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets (THD).
On the control panel, there are two 120V 20A duplex outlets (5-20R).It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 5A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter and makes it easy to charge batteries.Since the unit comes with a dual port USB adapter, you can also use the DC receptacle to easily charge devices like cell phones and tablets.
Several lights tell you when the generator is ready, when the oil level is too low, and when the generator is overloaded. The unit has Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology (QPTTM), which makes it much quieter, uses less fuel, and puts out less pollution. When the switch on the control panel is turned ON, the engine speed goes up when electrical loads are added and down when they are taken away. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The Briggs & Stratton P2200 PowerSmart comes with a funnel, tool kit, dual port USB adapter, and oil, as well as the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
The encased inverter generator design of the Briggs & Stratton P2200 PowerSmart (L21 x W12.5 x H17.35 in) makes it look better than any ordinary open frame product. The design fits with what’s popular now and is perfect for generating power for fun.The 54-pound weight of the P2200 PowerSmart lets you take it anywhere. Also, shifting it is easy because the P2200 PowerSmart has a cool triple handle that is built into the case and gives you a much better grip.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Briggs-Stratton-30651-P2200-PowerSmart compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
