The DuroStar DS13000E houses a 500 cc (18 hp) DuroStar OHV 4-stroke engine, which provides 120/240V, consumes gasoline and delivers a running wattage of 10,500W along with a peak wattage of 13,000W. Enjoying a noise rating of 74 dBA (A tad noisier than a vacuum cleaner), this generator can be started thanks to a simple traditional pull-start mechanism, but also to a convenient and easy-to-use electric starter (battery included) (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 8.3 gallons, the DS13000E may run for around 8.5 hours at 0.5 load with a full tank (fuel consumption is approximately 0.98 GPH) (fuel consumption is approximately 0.98 GPH). Since the DS13000E has a somewhat high THD (<12%), it is advisable to not use it for the powering of sensitive electronic devices.
The control panel has 5 AC outlets: a 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A plug that looks like a cigarette lighter so you can easily charge your batteries. This DuroStar generator isn’t quite RV-ready, but it has an L5-30R receptacle that makes it easy to hook it up to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter. The DS13000E is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
The status and activity of the DS13000E can be easily checked on the control panel, which has a meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. In addition to this information, the featured light indicator will let you know when the oil level is too low.A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. As for safety features, the device has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The DuroStar DS13000E comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly. Also included are a funnel and a tool kit.
The DuroStar DS13000E has a traditional, open frame design with dimensions of L29 x W30 x H26 in, This gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. The generator weighs 232 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable).Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the DuroStar-DS13000E compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
DuroMax is a company that was started in 2003 and is based in Ontario, California. The DuroStar brand is one of its brands. Most DuroStar generators have a DuroMax twin, and the only difference between them is their color scheme and where they were made. The generators and engines for DuroStar are made in China, but the design and service centers are in the United States.
The warranty for the DuroStar DS13000E lasts for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out DuroStar’s (DuroMax’s) warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on DuroStar generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-844-DUROMAX (844-387-6629).
