The powerful and versatile Champion 200973 gives off 120V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,650W and a peak wattage of 4,550W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 3285 watts and a starting power of 4100 watts. This generator has a noise level of 68 dBA, which is less than an office. It can be started with a simple pull-start mechanism or a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). The 200973 has a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons. At 0.5 load, it can run for about 14 hours on gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.34 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 10.5 hours on a 20-pound tank (propane uses about 0.45 GPH). Since the 200973 has a THD of about 20%, it is best not to use it to power devices that are sensitive to noise.
The control panel has 4 AC outlets: a 120V 20A (5-20R) duplex outlet, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, and a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet. This Champion generator is ready for an RV because it has a TT-30R (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”) plug.
On the 200973’s control panel, there is an Intelligauge meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This lets you keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank.As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying.Volt GuardTM, which is built into Champion, protects your equipment and appliances from voltage spikes. The Champion 200973 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a funnel, an oil hose, and a propane hose.
The Champion 200973 is 24.7 inches long, 25 inches wide, and 22.2 inches high.It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be raised above ground level. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places.Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, it is very hard to move by hand because it weighs 123 pounds.Still, once it is on the ground, its 8-inch-diameter wheel kit and folding handle can easily solve the problem of low mobility and make it easy to move the device.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Champion-200973 compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
A US-based producer of power equipment, Champion Power Equipment was established in 2003.The comparatively tiny business has established a name for itself in the portable generator market as well as the larger power equipment market, with a concentration on heavy duty machinery like log cutters, snow blowers, chipper shredders, etc.Their whole product line is American-engineered.The corporation does not, however, disclose the country of origin of its parts.
There is a warranty on the Champion 200973 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Champion’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Champion generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-877-338-0999.
