The Champion 200987 has a 212 cc OHV 4-stroke engine that drives it. It runs on gasoline and has a running wattage of 3,500W and a peak wattage of 4,500W. It gives out 120V. Also, because it can work in parallel (though the ParaLink parallel kit is not included), this power can be increased by connecting it to another unit that works with it. The inverter generator has both a simple pull-start system and a simple, elegant electric starter (battery included). It has a noise level of 61 dBA (little noisier than an office setting). The EZ Start Dial on Champion makes it easy to start the engine and get to all the controls you need. To make things even easier, the 200987 can be started from afar (key fob included). The 200987 can run for up to 14 hours on a full tank of fuel, which is 2.3 gallons (fuel consumption is approximately 0.16 GPH). As the 200987 makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 3%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet and a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 8A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter and makes it easy to charge your batteries.Since the unit comes with a dual port USB adapter, you can also use the DC receptacle to easily charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The TT-30R plug on this Champion generator is ready for an RV.TT stands for “Travel Trailer”.
The 200987 and its control panel have an Intelligauge meter that shows voltage, frequency, and the number of hours the battery will last. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, the lights show you if the oil level is too low, if the generator is overloaded, and if it is ready to use.The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it.When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The Champion 200987 comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start using it right away.It also comes with a tool kit, oil, key fob, funnel, and a dual port USB adapter.
The Champion 200987 is an inverter generator with the following measurements: L23.2 x W17.7 x H20.1.So, it looks better than most other products with open frames. The design shown here is in line with the latest trends and is great for easy and fun use.The generator weighs 101 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable).Once it’s on the ground, though, its set of two wheels (dia:5 “), and its folding handle can easily fix the problem of limited mobility and make the device easy to move.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Champion-200987 compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
A US-based producer of power equipment, Champion Power Equipment was established in 2003.The comparatively tiny business has established a name for itself in the portable generator market as well as the larger power equipment market, with a concentration on heavy duty machinery like log cutters, snow blowers, chipper shredders, etc.Their whole product line is American-engineered.The corporation does not, however, disclose the country of origin of its parts.
There is a warranty on the Champion 200987 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Champion’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Champion generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-877-338-0999.
