The powerful and versatile Champion 201042 gives off 120V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,550W and a peak wattage of 4,450W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 3200 watts and a starting power of 4000 watts. This generator has a noise level of 68 dBA, which is less loud than background music. It starts up with a traditional pull-start mechanism. With a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons, the 201042 can run for about 14 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.34 GPH). It can last up to 10.5 hours with propane (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.45 GPH). The 201042 can’t be used to power sensitive electronics because its THD is quite high (20%).
The control panel has 4 AC outlets: a 120V 20A (5-20R) duplex outlet, a 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle, and a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle. This Champion generator is ready for an RV because it has a TT-30R plug (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”).
The Intelligauge meter on the control panel makes it easy to check on the status and activity of the 201042.It shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours.A built-in fuel gauge makes it easy and quick to check how much gas is in the generator. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries.Volt GuardTM, which is built into Champion, protects your equipment and appliances from voltage spikes. The Champion 201042 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with oil, a propane hose, a funnel, and a cover.
With dimensions of L24.8 x W24.8 x H22.4 in, the Champion 201042 is a traditional, open-frame generator that is stable and can be raised above ground level. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that you can move it, but at 112.4 lbs., it may be hard to move it by hand.Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheel kit (diameter: 8″) and its folding handle.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
A US-based producer of power equipment, Champion Power Equipment was established in 2003.The comparatively tiny business has established a name for itself in the portable generator market as well as the larger power equipment market, with a concentration on heavy duty machinery like log cutters, snow blowers, chipper shredders, etc.Their whole product line is American-engineered.The corporation does not, however, disclose the country of origin of its parts.
There is a warranty on the Champion 201042 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Champion’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Champion generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-877-338-0999.
