The gasoline-powered 224 cc OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the Champion 201049. It has a 120V output and a running power of 3,650W and a peak power of 4,500W. The device can also work in parallel (ParaLink is not included), which means it can be connected to a similar or compatible unit to get more power. The noise level of the inverter generator is 64 dBA, which is just a little bit louder than background music. It has a simple pull-start mechanism. The EZ Start Dial on Champion makes it easy to start the engine and get to all the controls you need. The 201049 can run for up to 17 hours on a full tank (using about 0.17 GPH of fuel), thanks to its 2.9-gallon fuel tank. The 201049 makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of 3%, so it’s safe to plug sensitive electronics into an AC outlet (THD).
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R); 120V 30A (TT-30R) receptacle. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 8A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter. This makes it easy to charge your batteries.Since the unit comes with a dual port USB adapter, you can also use the DC receptacle to easily charge devices like cell phones and tablets. This Champion generator is ready for an RV because it has a TT-30R (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”) plug.
The 201049’s control panel has a digital Intelligauge data center. This helps you keep track of its status and activity because it tells you how many run hours, how much power it puts out, how often it runs, and how much voltage and frequency it has.In addition to this information, a light shows you if the oil level is too low.The inverter generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy and quick to check the fuel level. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The unit also has CO ShieldTM technology, which keeps an eye on the amount of poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas that builds up in the generator when the engine is running.CO ShieldTM automatically turns off the engine and lights up a red LED if it finds high levels of CO gas. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Champion 201049 comes with the basic paperwork and an owner’s manual, which makes it easy to start the generator. It also comes with oil, a tool kit, a dual port USB adapter, and a funnel.
With dimensions of L20.9 x W18.3 x H19.4 in, the Champion 201049 is a traditional, open-frame generator that is stable and can be raised above ground level. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. With a dry weight of 75 pounds, the 201049 can go wherever you need power. The open frame design of this product also makes it easier to grab and move. You can also buy the official wheel kit, which will make it easier to move the 201049.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Champion-201049 compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
A US-based producer of power equipment, Champion Power Equipment was established in 2003.The comparatively tiny business has established a name for itself in the portable generator market as well as the larger power equipment market, with a concentration on heavy duty machinery like log cutters, snow blowers, chipper shredders, etc.Their whole product line is American-engineered.The corporation does not, however, disclose the country of origin of its parts.
There is a warranty on the Champion 201049 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Champion’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Champion generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-877-338-0999.
