The DuroMax XP8500EH is powerful and flexible, thanks to its dual-fuel technology that lets it run on both 120V and 240V. When powered by gasoline, it has a running wattage of 7,000W and a maximum wattage of 8,500W. When run by propane, it has a rated power of 6650 watts and a peak power of 8075 watts. The generator has a noise level of 72 dBA, which is just a little louder than a vacuum cleaner. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a fuel tank of 7.9 gallons, the XP8500EH can run for about 10 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.79 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 5 hours on a 20-pound tank (propane uses about 0.94 GPH). Since the XP8500EH has a THD of about 12%, it is best not to use it to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplex outlets and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are on the control panel. It also has 3 DC outlets, including a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge batteries and two 5V USB ports that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The XP8500EH is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. If the power goes out, you can easily connect it to a breaker box and keep your home running.
On the XP8500EH’s control panel, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it.As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying. The DuroMax XP8500EH comes with some accessories like battery charging cables, a funnel, a propane hose, and a tool kit.It also comes with standard documentation and an owner’s manual to get you started right away. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
The DuroMax XP8500EH has a standard, open frame that is 30 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high. This frame gives it support and lets it be lifted off the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator weighs 204 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable).Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Small American power equipment manufacturer Duromax is headquartered in Ontario, California.Pumps, engines, pressure washers, and power generators are among the many goods in which Duromax excels. The company’s only concentration in this area is on portable generators, primarily those with small and medium power outputs as well as dual fuel devices.Although construction of Duromax generators is outsourced to other countries, they are designed and serviced in the US.DuroMax, which was established in 2003, has begun to emerge as a significant force in the market for power generators.
A warranty covers the DuroMax XP8500EH for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out DuroMax’s warranty policies if you want to know more about the warranty on DuroMax generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-844-DUROMAX (844-387-6629).
