The 457 cc OHV 4-stroke engine drives the DuroStar DS11000X. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 9,000W and a peak wattage of 11,000. The generator has a noise level of 74 dBA, which is just a little louder than a shower. It has a simple pull-start mechanism as well as an easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the DS11000X can run for about 8.8 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.94 GPH of fuel). This is because it has an 8.3-gallon fuel capacity. Since the DS11000X has a THD of about 12%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
There are 7 AC outlets on the control panel: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle.Even though this DuroStar generator isn’t RV Ready, an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter can be used to connect it to a simple RV.Also, the DS11000X has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
The control center of the DS11000X has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This helps you keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, the device’s light indicator will show if there isn’t enough oil.The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it.As for safety features, the device has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The DuroStar CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown also works well with the DS11000X.If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroStar DS11000X comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly.A tool kit and funnel are also included.
The DuroStar DS11000X is 29 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 26 inches high.Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors.Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, its weight of 230 pounds makes it very hard to move by hand.Still, once it’s on the ground, its wheels and folding handle make it easy to move.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the DuroStar-DS11000X compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Ontario, California-based business DuroMax, which was established in 2003, is the owner of the DuroStar name.Typically, DuroStar generators and DuroMax generators are identical, with the exception of their color schemes and the manufacturing facility.Although DuroStar engines and generators are made in China, the US is home to the design and servicing centers.
The warranty for the DuroStar DS11000X lasts for up to 5 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out DuroStar’s (DuroMax’s) warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on DuroStar generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-844-DUROMAX (844-387-6629).
