The DuroStar DS4500DX’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 3,500W and a starting power of 4,500W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 3325 watts and a starting power of 4275 watts. With a noise level of 69 dBA, the generator is quieter than an office. It has both a pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is easy to use (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the DS4500DX can run for about 10.4 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.38 GPH of fuel), or 8.9 hours on a 20 lb tank (using about 0.53 GPH of propane). Due to its relatively high THD (12%), the DS4500DX is not a good choice for powering sensitive electronics.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
