The DuroStar DS4500DX’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 3,500W and a starting power of 4,500W. If it runs on propane, it has a rated power of 3325 watts and a starting power of 4275 watts. With a noise level of 69 dBA, the generator is quieter than an office. It has both a pull-start mechanism and an electric starter that is easy to use (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the DS4500DX can run for about 10.4 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.38 GPH of fuel), or 8.9 hours on a 20 lb tank (using about 0.53 GPH of propane). Due to its relatively high THD (12%), the DS4500DX is not a good choice for powering sensitive electronics.
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120V/240V 20A (5-20R) receptacle. The DS4500DX has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which means it is ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
On the control panel of the DS4500DX, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light lets you know right away if the oil level is too low.The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries.DuroStar’s CO Alert carbon monoxide shutdown also helps the DS4500DX.If CO levels get too high too quickly, the generator will shut down automatically, a red light will come on, and the engine won’t start again for 5 minutes. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The DuroStar DS4500DX comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a propane hose, funnel, and tool kit, among other things.
The DuroStar DS4500DX is 25 inches long, 23 inches wide, and 22 inches high.It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be raised above ground level. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places.Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 126 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools.Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the DuroStar-DS4500DX compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Ontario, California-based business DuroMax, which was established in 2003, is the owner of the DuroStar name.Typically, DuroStar generators and DuroMax generators are identical, with the exception of their color schemes and the manufacturing facility.Although DuroStar engines and generators are made in China, the US is home to the design and servicing centers.
The warranty for the DuroStar DS4500DX lasts for up to 5 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out DuroStar’s (DuroMax’s) warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on DuroStar generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-844-DUROMAX (844-387-6629).
