The 992 cc Generac OHVI 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline, is the heart of the Generac GP17500E. It has a 120/240V output and a running power of 17,500W and a peak power of 26,250W. This generator is turned on with an electric starter that is both simple and elegant (battery included). With a full tank, the GP17500E can run for about 10 hours at 0.5 load with its 16-gallon fuel tank (fuel consumption is approximately 1.6 GPH). Due to its high THD (20%), the GP17500E is not a good choice for powering sensitive electronic devices.
There are 8 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet, two 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlets, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. It also has one DC outlet: a 12V/10A receptacle that makes it easy to charge batteries. This Generac generator has an L5-30R outlet, which makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. But it’s still not ready for an RV.Also, the GP17500E is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
The GP17500E’s control panel has a digital data center that tells you how many hours it has run over its lifetime. This helps you keep track of its activity and status. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it.In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker).Generac included a tool kit with the GP17500E, along with the usual paperwork and owner’s manual to get you up and running quickly.
The Generac GP17500E has a standard, open frame that measures L48.5 x W31 x H39.5 in, This frame gives it support and lets it be raised above the ground. The generator is built to work well outside and in rough places. The generator weighs 390 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically a “portable” generator (movable). But its wheel kit (dia:12.3 in) makes it easy to move around “Once it’s on the floor, the handle will make it easier to move.A lift hook on the top of the frame adds another layer of safety and makes it easier to move, load, and unload the generator.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Generac-5735-GP17500E compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Generac Power Systems is an American company that has been around since 1959.It makes generators and other power equipment.Generac’s main focus, as the name suggests, is on power generators and other electrical equipment like switches, paralleling systems, and small engines. The company has a number of factories in the US, so all of its products are made there. But the company doesn’t say anything about where their parts come from.
The warranty for the Generac GP17500E lasts for up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Generac’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long generators are covered by warranty. You can also call their customer service line at 1-888-GENERAC (888-436-3722).
