Description
The 389 cc Generac OHV 4-stroke engine, which runs on gasoline, is the heart of the Generac GP6500. It has a 120V/240V output and a running power of 6,500W and a peak power of 8,125W. This generator starts up with a simple pull-start mechanism that has been around for a long time. With a full tank, the GP6500 can run for about 10.5 hours at 0.5 load for every 6.9 gallons of fuel (fuel consumption is approximately 0.66 GPH). The THD (20%) of the GP6500 is too high for it to be used to power sensitive electronic devices.
Outlets
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are among the 5 AC outlets on the control panel.
The GP6500 has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which means it is ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.Features
The GP6500’s control panel has a digital data center that helps you keep track of its status and activity by telling you how many hours it has been running for.
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. From a safety point of view, the product has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worrying. The GP6500 also has the COsense® carbon monoxide monitor from Generac. This technology monitors CO output, controls it, and turns off the unit when it needs to, to prevent CO poisoning. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Generac GP6500 comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with the following accessories: funnel and oil.Mobility
The Generac GP6500 is 27.2 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 26.5 inches high.
Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places. The generator is technically “portable” because it can be moved, but at 172 pounds, it may be hard to move it by hand.Still, because of its wheel kit (dia:9.5), “Once the generator is on the ground, it is easy to move thanks to its wheels and folding handle, which make up for its lack of maneuverability.Product Videos

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Founded in 1959, Generac Power Systems is an American manufacturer of power tools and generators.
Generac’s primary business is, as its name implies, the manufacture of power generators as well as other electrically related products like switches, paralleling systems, and tiny engines. The corporation has multiple US-based production facilities, thus its goods are produced there. The company, however, doesn’t disclose where the components they use were made.Warranty Information
The warranty for the Generac GP6500 lasts for up to 3 years.
This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Generac’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long generators are covered by warranty. You can also call their customer service line at 1-888-GENERAC (888-436-3722).
