The 999 cc OHV V-Twin engine of the Powerhorse 27000 runs on gasoline and can put out 120/240V. It has a running power of 18,000W and a maximum power of 27,000W. The generator has an electric starter that is convenient and easy to use (battery included). With a full tank, the 27000 can run for about 8 hours at 0.5 load with a fuel capacity of 17.2 gallons (fuel consumption is approximately 2.15 GPH). The 27000 makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion of 5%, so it is safe to plug sensitive electronics into the AC outlets (THD).
The control panel has 8 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, two 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlets, a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) outlet. Also, it has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A receptacle that makes it easy to charge your batteries.Even though this Powerhorse generator isn’t quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. The 27000 also has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
In the 27000’s control center, there is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This helps you keep an eye on its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it.When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The Powerhorse 27000 comes with basic instructions and an owner’s manual to help you start the generator quickly. It also comes with a funnel and charging cables for the batteries.
The Powerhorse 27000 is 37.8 inches long, 25.5 inches wide, and 32.6 inches tall.It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be lifted off the ground. The design shown is great for the outdoors and other rough places.Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it weighs 510 pounds and can be hard to move and use without special tools.Still, its wheel kit (dia:13) makes it easy to move “) and its handle that folds up, once it’s on the ground.A lift hook on the top of the frame adds an extra safety measure when the device is being moved, unloaded, or loaded.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Powerhorse-27000 compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
