The powerful and versatile WEN DF472 has an output of 120/240V thanks to its dual-fuel technology. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,800W and a peak wattage of 4,750W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 3500 watts and a starting power of 4350 watts. It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. The DF472, which has a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load on a full tank of gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.36 GPH). If propane is used, it can run for about 7 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.67 GPH).
On the control panel, there are 3 AC outlets for: Duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI; 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also has 1 DC outlet, which is a 12V 8A receptacle that looks like a cigarette lighter. This makes it easy to charge your batteries. The DF472 is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. For safety, the generator has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, so you can use it without worrying. The WEN DF472 comes with a standard set of instructions and an owner’s manual to get you started right away.It also comes with a propane hose and oil.
The WEN DF472 is 23.1 inches long, 17.5 inches wide, and 18.5 inches high.Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use.The generator weighs 103.2 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically considered “portable” (movable).
We could find any videos of the product at the time of writing. Please search YouTube for any update.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the WEN-DF472 compare to other generators with the same power output.
**Fuel efficiency is give in relative percentage, 0 being the lowest and 1 being the highest value. Please see below specification table for actual value.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951.WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators.WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
The WEN DF472 has a warranty that lasts up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out WEN’s warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on their generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-847-429-9263.
