With its dual-fuel technology, the WEN DF472X can run on either 120V or 240V, giving it power and flexibility. When powered by gasoline, it has a running wattage of 3,800W and a maximum wattage of 4,750W. When run on propane, it has a rated power of 3500 watts and a peak power of 4350 watts. This generator is turned on with a simple, old-fashioned pull-start. With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the DF472X can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.36 GPH of fuel), or about 7 hours on a 20 lb tank (using about 0.67 GPH of propane).
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. It also has 1 DC outlet: a 12V 8A plug that looks like a cigarette lighter so you can easily charge your batteries. The DF472X is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. When it comes to safety, this product has a circuit breaker for overheating and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without any worries. The unit also works well because WEN’s CO Watchdog can detect carbon monoxide. This system keeps track of how much CO gas is being made while the generator is running. If there is too much CO gas, the CO Watchdog system will turn off the generator automatically. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to always take your generator outside. The WEN DF472X package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away.It also comes with a propane hose, oil, and a tool kit.
The WEN DF472X has a typical open frame that is L23.1 x W17.5 x H18.5 in, This gives it support and stability and gives you the option to raise it above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it can be hard to move and use it without special tools because it weighs 102.5 pounds.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Nick Anton started WEN Products, an American power tool manufacturer and distributor, in 1951.WEN Products says that its research in random orbital technology contributed to the creation of current chainsaws, soldering tools, and wet sharpeners. The Illinois-based corporation increased the range of power tools that were available through its distribution network, including presses, drills, and of course, power generators.WEN is a distributor, and the majority of the products in its inventory are branded imports from Asian manufacturers.
The WEN DF472X has a warranty that lasts up to 2 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out WEN’s warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on their generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-847-429-9263.
