The Westinghouse WGen12000 has a 713 cc (22 hp) Westinghouse V-Twin engine that puts out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and puts out 12,000W at full power and 15,000W when running. The noise level of the generator is set at 74 dBA (Slightly louder than a shower). It starts with an electric starter that is both simple and elegant (battery included). The WGen12000 can also be started from a distance, which makes it even more convenient (key fob included). With a full tank, the WGen12000 can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load with a fuel capacity of 10.5 gallons (fuel consumption is approximately 0.95 GPH). Since the WGen12000 makes a clean sine wave with a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug sensitive electronics into AC outlets.
There are 7 AC outlets on the control panel: Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes, a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle. It also has 2 DC outlets: two 5V USB ports that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. This Westinghouse generator isn’t quite RV Ready, but it has an L5-30R receptacle that makes it easy to connect to an RV with an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter. The WGen12000 also has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which makes it ready for a transfer switch. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
The WGen12000’s control panel has a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours so you can keep an eye on its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank. When it comes to safety, this product has an automatic low oil shut-off and an overload protection (circuit breaker), so you can use it without worry. The Westinghouse WGen12000 comes with standard paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with a battery charger, key fob, funnel, tool kit, and oil.
The Westinghouse WGen12000 has a standard, open frame that is 34 inches long, 31 inches wide, and 35 inches high. This frame gives it support and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors.Even though this generator is technically “portable” in the sense that it can be moved, it weighs 352 pounds, which makes it very hard to move by hand. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.A lift hook on the top of the frame adds an extra safety measure when the device is being moved, unloaded, or loaded.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Westinghouse-WGen12000 compare to other generators with the same power output.
**Fuel efficiency is give in relative percentage, 0 being the lowest and 1 being the highest value. Please see below specification table for actual value.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment is a part of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, which was founded in 1886 and is based in the US.Even though the company was bought by American CBS and merged with it, the Westinghouse name is still used for many of their electrical products, from power plants to portable generators.Portable generators are the main product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment branch. These generators used to be made by Westpro Power Systems, but Midwest Equipment bought it in 2016.Under the Westinghouse brand name, you can also buy lawn tools like trimmers and blowers.Every one of their products is made in the US.Several sources, though, say that most of the time they are made in China.
There is a warranty on the Westinghouse WGen12000 for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out Westinghouse’s warranty policies if you want to know more about the warranty on Westinghouse generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-855-944-3571.
