With its dual-fuel technology, the Pulsar PG5250B is a powerful and versatile generator that can put out either 120V or 240V. Even though it runs on gasoline, it has a running wattage of 4,250W and a peak wattage of 5,250W. It runs on propane and has a rated power of 3850 watts and a starting power of 4750 watts. With Pulsar’s patented Switch & Go technology, you can switch from propane to gasoline or from gasoline to propane while the generator is running. The generator can make up to 72 dBA of noise (A tad noisier than a vacuum cleaner). It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the PG5250B can run for about 12 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (fuel consumption is approximately 0.33 GPH). If you use propane instead, it can run for about 13 hours on a 20-pound tank (propane uses about 0.36 GPH).

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
