Description
The DuroStar DS5500EH’s dual-fuel technology lets it put out 120/240V and gives it a lot of power and flexibility. If it is powered by gasoline, the device has a running power of 4,500W and a starting power of 5,500W. If it is powered by propane, it has a rated 4275 watts and a starting 5225 watts. This generator has a noise level of 69 dBA, which is quieter than background music. It can be started with a simple pull-start mechanism, but it also has an easy-to-use electric starter (battery included). With a fuel capacity of 4 gallons, the DS5500EH can run for about 9 hours at 0.5 load on gasoline (using about 0.44 GPH of fuel), or about 8 hours on a 20 lb tank (using about 0.59 GPH of propane). Due to its relatively high THD (12%), the DS5500EH is not a good choice to power sensitive electronics.
Outlets
The control panel has 3 AC outlets: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI outlet and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet.
It also has 1 DC outlet with a 12V 8A output that makes it easy to charge your batteries. The DS5500EH is ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can connect it to a breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.Features
The control center of the DS5500EH has a handy voltmeter that lets you check the power output at any time.
This helps you keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, a light shows you if there isn’t enough oil.The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in it.From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The DuroStar DS5500EH comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away.It also comes with a propane hose, funnel, battery charging cables, and a tool kit.Mobility
The DuroStar DS5500EH is 25 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 22 inches high.
It has a typical open frame design that makes it stable and allows it to be raised above ground level. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use.The generator weighs 122 pounds, so it may be hard to move or transport it by hand, even though it is technically a “portable” generator (movable).Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.Product Videos

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Ontario, California-based business DuroMax, which was established in 2003, is the owner of the DuroStar name.
Typically, DuroStar generators and DuroMax generators are identical, with the exception of their color schemes and the manufacturing facility.Although DuroStar engines and generators are made in China, the US is home to the design and servicing centers.Warranty Information
The warranty for the DuroStar DS5500EH lasts for up to 3 years.
This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out DuroStar’s (DuroMax’s) warranty policies to learn more about the warranty on DuroStar generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-844-DUROMAX (844-387-6629).
