The engine of the Genmax GM5500i is a 312cc Dinking OHV 4-stroke that runs on gasoline and can put out 120/240V. It has a running power of 5,000W and a maximum power of 5,500W. The noise level of the inverter generator is 62 dBA, which is just a little louder than an office. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). Due to its 3.5-gallon fuel tank, the GM5500i can run for up to 13 hours on a full tank (using about 0.27 GPH of fuel). The GM5500i makes a clean sine wave. With a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug your sensitive electronics into the AC outlets.
Two 120V 20A (5-20R) GFCI duplexes and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle are among the 5 AC outlets on the control panel. It also has two DC outlets: two 5V USB ports (USB-A) that make it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets. The GM5500i has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle, which means it is ready for a transfer switch. It can power your home during a power outage because it is easy to connect to your breaker box.
The GM5500i’s control panel has a digital data center that shows the frequency, fuel level, power output, voltage, and lifetime run hours. This helps you keep track of its status and activity. In addition to this information, the device’s lights will show if the generator is overloaded, if it is ready, or if it doesn’t have enough oil.For safety, the generator has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off, so you can use it without worrying. It also has the CO DETECT technology from Genmax, which checks the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Genmax GM5500i package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away.It also comes with a funnel and a tool kit.
The Genmax GM5500i looks better than a typical open frame generator because it has a closed inverter generator (L21.1 x W18.5 x H24 in).The goal of this modern design is to give recreational users the best way to get power.Even though this device is technically portable (meaning it can be moved), it is hard to move and use without special tools because it weighs 116.6 pounds. But its two wheels (diameter: 5.5 in) make up for the fact that it is hard to turn “Once it’s on the ground, you can move it easily with its telescoping handle.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Genmax-GM5500i compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
