The Honda EB6500X has a 389 cc Honda iGX390 OHV 4-stroke engine that runs on gasoline, gives out 120/240V, and has a running wattage of 5,500W and a peak wattage of 6,500W. (and even up to 7,000 W thanks to the iAVR technology). The noise level of the generator is 64 dBA, which is just a little louder than background music. The generator is started with a pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the EB6500X can run for about 9.8 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.63 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 6.2 gallons of fuel. Due to its relatively high THD (10%), the EB6500X can’t be used to power sensitive electronic devices.
The full GFCI control panel has 6 AC outlets: two 120V 20A (5-20R) duplexes, a 120V 30A (L5-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. With an L5-30P to TT-30R adapter, this Honda generator’s L5-30R receptacle makes it easy to connect to an RV.But it’s still not ready for an RV.The EB6500X is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to find out how much gas is in it.As for safety features, the device has an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Alert®), so you can use it without worrying. In addition to the features we’ve already talked about, the Honda EB6500X comes with standard paperwork and an owner’s manual to help you get started right away. You can buy a storage cover from the company separately.
The Honda EB6500X is 41.4 inches long, 27.8 inches wide, and 30.4 inches high.Together with its traditional, open-frame design, they support the generator and allow it to be raised above the ground. The design works well in rough places and for hard outdoor use.The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that you can move it, but at 215.8 lbs., it may be hard to move it by hand.Once it is on the ground, it can still be moved easily with the help of its wheels and folding handle. The device also has a lift hook on the top of its frame, which makes loading, unloading, and moving the generator safer.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Honda-EB6500 compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Japanese Honda Motor Company, founded in 1948, has built a reputation for regularly delivering high-quality engines, motorized vehicles, and equipment. The business has built a solid name over the years in the power tool, motorbike, and vehicle industries.Since 1953, Honda’s power tool division has been manufacturing various power tools, such as tillers, mowers, blowers, sprayers, and of course, generators.Honda is still regarded as a legend among generator manufacturers even after the firm went worldwide and shifted the majority of its production from Japan to other Asian nations.
There is a warranty on the Honda EB6500X for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Honda’s warranty policies can tell you more about how long the warranty on a Honda generator lasts. You can also call their customer service line at 1-770-497-6400.
