The gasoline-powered 40 cc OHV 4-stroke engine is the heart of the Sportsman GEN1000i. It has a 120V output and a running power of 800W and a peak power of 1,000W. The noise level of the inverter generator is 56 dBA, which is quieter than a conversation at home. It has a simple pull-start mechanism. With a full tank, the GEN1000i can run for about 6.3 hours at 0.5 load (using about 0.1 GPH of fuel). This is because it has a 0.6 gallon fuel tank. The GEN1000i makes a clean sine wave. With a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 5%, you can safely plug your sensitive electronics into an AC outlet.
On the control panel, there is a 120V 20A (5-20R) receptacle for an AC outlet.
Also, it has one DC outlet and a 5V USB port, which makes it easy to charge devices like cell phones and tablets.
The lights tell you if the generator is ready to go, if it doesn’t have enough oil, or if it’s too busy.
As far as safety goes, the device has an automatic shut-off for low oil and a circuit breaker for overheating, so you can use it without worrying.
The Sportsman GEN1000i comes with the usual paperwork and an owner’s manual , which lets you start it right away.
It also comes with a funnel, battery charging cables, and a tool kit.
The Sportsman GEN1000i is an inverter generator.
It has a case that is L15.6 in, x W8 in, x H13.8 in, So, it looks better than most other products with open frames.
The generator has a modern look and is easy to use when generating power for fun.
The GEN1000i is called a lightweight portable generator because it only weighs 20.3 lbs.
The power of the product can be used on the go, since it is easy for one person to move.
The handle, which is built into the case, is also helpful because it makes it easy to carry.
On our list of the 10 smallest portable generators, this unit comes in at number one.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Sportsman-GEN1000i compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The US-based Buffalo firm is the registered owner of the minor brand known as Sportsman Series.
The Buffalo Corporation is a small business that distributes tools and household goods.
It was established in 1964.
They provide products under the labels AmeriHome, Black Bull, Buffalo Tools, and Sportsman Series, which includes a variety of generators and other everyday items.
The company, in fact, appears to outsource all of its production to foreign countries and simply serves as a distributor for its own brands.
A warranty covers the Sportsman GEN1000i for up to a year.
This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.
