The Westinghouse WGen5300DFv is powerful and flexible, thanks to its dual-fuel technology that lets it run on both 120V and 240V. When powered by gasoline, it has a running wattage of 5,300W and a maximum wattage of 6,500W. When run on propane, it has a rated power of 4800 watts and a peak power of 5800 watts. The generator is meant to make 68 dBA of noise (quieter than a regular conversation). It has a pull-start mechanism, which is a common way to start a motor. With a full tank of gasoline, the WGen5300DFv, which has a fuel capacity of 4.7 gallons, can run for about 11 hours at 0.5 load (fuel consumption is approximately 0.43 GPH). If propane is used, it can run for about 9 hours (on a 20 lbs tank – propane consumption around 0.52 GPH). Since the WGen5300DFv has a THD of about 23%, it shouldn’t be used to power electronics that are sensitive to noise.
There are 4 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet, a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet. This Westinghouse generator is ready for an RV because it has a TT-30R (which stands for “Travel Trailer”) plug. The WGen5300DFv is also ready for a transfer switch because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. It is easy to connect to a breaker box and can power your home if the power goes out.
The status and activity of the WGen5300DFv can be easily checked on the control panel, which has a meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it quick, easy, and convenient to check how much gas is in the machine. From a safety point of view, the product has a circuit breaker for overload protection and an automatic shut-off for low oil, so you can use it without worry. The Westinghouse WGen5300DFv comes with the standard paperwork and an owner’s manual, which will help you get the device up and running quickly. It also comes with a propane hose, a tool kit, oil, and a funnel. You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
The standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen5300DFv, which has dimensions of L23.2 x W20.1 x H19.1 in, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. The device was made to work well in harsh conditions and in the great outdoors. The generator is technically “portable” in the sense that you can move it, but at 134.5 lbs., it may be hard to move it by hand. But its wheel kit and folding handle make it easy to move once it’s on the ground, which makes up for its lack of maneuverability.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Westinghouse-WGen5300DFv compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was established in 1886, and its heritage business, Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment, is situated in the US.The Westinghouse name continues to be the brand name for many of its electrical solutions, which range throughout the scale from power plants to portable generators, despite the fact that the firm has been acquired and integrated into the American CBS.The primary product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment division, portable generators were previously produced by Westpro Power Systems, which Midwest Equipment acquired in 2016.Under the Westinghouse brand, lawn tools including trimmers and blowers are also offered for sale.Their entire line of items is American-designed.However, according to a number of sites, they are frequently made in China.
There is a warranty on the Westinghouse WGen5300DFv for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out Westinghouse’s warranty policies if you want to know more about the warranty on Westinghouse generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-855-944-3571.
