The Westinghouse WGen5300sc has an OHV 4-stroke engine that is 274 cc. It gives out 120/240V, runs on gasoline, and has a running wattage of 5,300W and a peak wattage of 6,600W. The generator has a noise level of 68 dBA, which is quieter than background music. It has a simple pull-start mechanism and a simple and elegant electric starter (battery included). With a full tank, the WGen5300sc can run for up to 14.5 hours (using about 0.32 GPH of fuel). This is because it can hold 4.7 gallons of fuel. Due to its high THD (23%), the WGen5300sc is not a good choice for powering sensitive electronic devices.
There are 4 AC outlets on the control panel: a duplex 120V 20A (5-20R) outlet, a 120V 30A (TT-30R) outlet, and a 120/240V 30A (L14-30R) outlet.Because it has a TT-30R plug (TT stands for “Travel Trailer”), this Westinghouse generator is ready for an RV.The WGen5300sc is also transfer switch ready because it has a twist-lock L14-30R receptacle. You can easily connect it to your breaker box to power your home when the power goes out.
On the control panel of the WGen5300sc is a handy meter that shows voltage, frequency, and lifetime hours. This makes it easier to keep track of its status and activity. The generator has a built-in fuel gauge that makes it easy to see at a glance how much gas is in the tank.In terms of safety, the generator can be used without worry because it has an automatic shut-off for low oil and an overload protection (circuit breaker). It also has a sensor for carbon monoxide. This sensor is meant to measure the amount of carbon monoxide in the air while the generator is running. If the generator isn’t set up right and carbon monoxide levels get too high, the generator will turn off by itself. It’s a nice extra safety measure, but don’t forget to take your generator outside at all times. The Westinghouse WGen5300sc package comes with basic paperwork and an owner’s manual that will help you start the generator right away.It also comes with oil, a funnel, and a tool kit.You can also buy a storage cover that is made by the company.
The standard open frame design of the Westinghouse WGen5300sc, which has dimensions of L23.2 x W20.1 x H19.1 in, gives the generator stability and lets it be raised above ground level. This type of design is great for tough environments and heavy outdoor use.Even though the generator is technically considered to “be portable,” it will be very hard to move it by hand because it weighs 133.8 pounds (in the sense that it is movable).Still, the generator is easy to move once it’s on the ground, thanks to its wheel kit and folding handle, which is a good way to make up for its lack of maneuverability.
The following charts show how some of the most important features of the Westinghouse-WGen5300sc compare to other generators with the same power output.

- We compared more than 500 portable generators at 50% load. We found that there is “skewed right” distribution for the difference between 50% load and 25% load and the median comes at 1.43. With this number we converter all the 25% load runtime to 50% load. Same with the propane efficiency, where median is 1.38.
- For some generators where propane runtime was not given, we used NIST 1994 GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent) formula: 5.66 lbs. of propane = 1 gal of gasoline. All propane runtime is for 20 lbs. propane tank (4.7 gallons).
- Unlike many other sites, we actually tried to find out information about each of the above requirements. However, we are human and are therefore capable of the odd oversight or mistake. Please let us know if you spot any missing or erroneous values so that we can fix them.
About the Manufacturer
The Westinghouse Electric Corporation was established in 1886, and its heritage business, Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment, is situated in the US.The Westinghouse name continues to be the brand name for many of its electrical solutions, which range throughout the scale from power plants to portable generators, despite the fact that the firm has been acquired and integrated into the American CBS.The primary product of Westinghouse’s Outdoor Power Equipment division, portable generators were previously produced by Westpro Power Systems, which Midwest Equipment acquired in 2016.Under the Westinghouse brand, lawn tools including trimmers and blowers are also offered for sale.Their entire line of items is American-designed.However, according to a number of sites, they are frequently made in China.
A warranty covers the Westinghouse WGen5300sc for up to 3 years. This warranty may not cover all parts of the generator or may only cover certain parts.Check out Westinghouse’s warranty policies if you want to know more about the warranty on Westinghouse generators. You can also call their customer service line at 1-855-944-3571.
